Continuing a working relationship that has spanned more than 20 years, LJA Engineering &
Surveying is currently contributing to several projects under development in The Woodlands, a
significant master planned community located 25 miles north of Houston.
In addition to providing civil and structural services, LJA provided hydraulics and
transportation engineering for Town Center, a 1.5 mile linear park connecting Lake Woodlands
with Lake Robbins and offering access to Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. Designed as a
transportation corridor, public area, and as a visual and recreational centerpiece, Town Center
will offer light paddle-boat traffic and a rubber-tired tram as well as retail, commercial and
entertainment opportunities.
LJA designed the sidewalks, tramways, boat docking and tram station facilities for Town
Center, in addition to the infrastructure supporting landscaping and numerous water features
including fountains and "wet steps." Final design for the project, planned to add activity to the community of 45,000, will be completed in late 1997 with construction planned for early 1998.
LJA also recently completed civil engineering, platting, hydraulics and hydrology services for
Sections 42, 43, 44, 48, 53, and 54 of the Village of Alden Bridge. The infrastructure design
includes sanitary sewers, storm sewers, water lines and major roadways.

In addition, in 1996 LJA completed engineering design on 250 lots in the Village of Indians
Springs, located in the southerly portion of The Woodlands.
Hydrology work is on-going, as LJA continues to participate in the water and stormwater
management plan for The Woodlands. Services which keep pace with development in the
community include analysis and improvements of existing streams and design for numerous
drainage channels; LJA also has designed two major dams and spillways for the area in the past.
LJA is conducting preliminary design work on The Woodlands College Park site, adjacent to
the Montgomery North Harris Community College campus. The community is planned for 400-500 lots.
Calvin Ladner, LJA project manager for The Woodlands, credits The Woodlands Operating
Company, L.P. with maintaining a consistent approach and standard of quality throughout the
community's expansion. "We now have people on our staff with 20 years of experience with this
project. That kind of continuity adds value to our relationship and to the development."
