LJA has always included site civil services as part of the firm's overall capabilities. For hospitals, schools, office buildings, malls, strip centers and churches, site civil services include providing site layouts, utilities for water and sanitary facilities, as well as drainage and paving plans. Also included is working with local agencies on approvals necessary to get the infrastructure in place prior to facility construction, in addition to coordination with the architect, structural and MEP engineers to help ensure a timely project, from design through construction.
While site civil services are essential, John Perry, LJA vice president states, "The process is the same whether you're working on a small commercial site or a downtown high-rise. We make sure that there's adequate parking, that the property drains well, is free of floodplainencroachment, and that ample utilities are available to serve the project's purpose."
Some current site civil projects on LJA's slate:
- LJA is working on the first of three phases for a hospital and professional building located at the corner of FM 1960 and US Highway 290 for Memorial Hermann Healthcare System. For this 24-acre site, LJA is providing all utility, drainage and paving design. With design development complete on the first phase, construction plans are currently underway.
- For St. Agnes Baptist Church in southeast Houston, LJA is beginning the feasibility study for the construction of a new monolithic dome auditorium to enlarge the capacity of an existing church. After the wetlands investigation is completed, LJA will be providing water, sanitary sewer and drainage plans and designing the parking layout.
