TxDOT Fort Bend property sale underway
Following the LJA engineering study and recommendations provided in 1995, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is actively proceeding with the disposition of approximately 6,000 acres of land in Fort Bend County. TxDOT acquired the six tracts of land in 1993.
The property, located along Highway 59, State Highway 6, Highway 90A, and the Grand Parkway (SH 99), lies within the jurisdiction of both the City of Sugar Land and the City of Houston, all within Fort Bend County. In 1995, LJA managed eight consultants to develop a strategy to optimize the value of each parcel and reduce risk for developers. Issues identified included drainage and detention, access and wetlands requirements.
At this point, LJA is assisting potential developers in their analyses of and bidding on the various tracts. According to Jim Moehlman, LJA vice president, TxDOT put Tract 3 (located east of SH 6 north of Highway 90A) out for bid in early February of this year. Bids were due by April 30, 1999. Tract 1, located on the Grand Parkway north of Highway 90A, was out for bid at the end of February with bids due by May 28, 1999. Tracts 2, 4 and 5 are scheduled to be out for bid late this spring, with bids due this summer.
