LJA Engineering is currently providing design of water, sewer, drainage and paving facilities for an extension within the residential section of the 10,500-acre Sienna Plantation community in Missouri City, Texas.
The 444-acre section, scheduled for annexation into the levee improvement district, a municipal utility district, and the development agreement with Missouri City, will allow for the expansion of two of the four villages currently under development within the community. Estimated construction value of the expansion is $23 million.
Part of the whole
Part of LJA's charge was designing to incorporate the natural features of the Sienna Plantation site, which is both environmentally diverse and historically interesting. Natural features include Oyster Creek, Cow Bayou, several lakes, and wetlands areas.

Drainage posed a particular challenge. Due to the size of the watershed involved, drainage and detention had to be handled through a system of channels and improvements to Oyster Creek and Cow Bayou. In addition, drainage facilities had to cross railroad trestles for two railroad lines, which necessitated special structural considerations.
While the residential section of Sienna Plantation continues to develop primarily in the south, a separate levee system is under construction on the northern end.
LJA Engineering has been involved in planning, infrastructure design, hydrology/hydraulics, levee improvements, utility design, and construction coordination on the project with Sienna/ Johnson Development L.P. since 1995.
