The Woodlands Grows with LJA

Extending a 25-plus year relationship with The Woodlands Operating Company, LJA is providing engineering services on the newest village to be developed in the Montgomery County section of the 25,000-acre award-winning "home town."

Currently under construction, Carlton Woods is a private, gated community within the Village of Sterling Ridge, located in the southwest corner of The Woodlands. The village was named Sterling Ridge in honor of the date of groundbreaking, which took place on The Woodland's 25th anniversary.

In keeping with the concept of The Woodlands, the 8,000-acre Village of Sterling Ridge maintains a heavily wooded, natural environment. LJA provided engineering design to support amenities such as a recreation center, pocket parks, and numerous trails throughout the property.

Specific LJA services for Village of Sterling Ridge include hydrology, master planning of utilities, design of single-family residential sections and major infrastructure, major roadway design, trunk sewer and drainage channel design.

Sterling Ridge will contain lots for 3,000 homes in the price range of $200,000 and up. The enclave of Carlton Woods offers 520 oversized lots, suitable for homes starting at $500,000. Early sales in the new community have been brisk to date.

The key feature of the new community is two recently opened par 72, 7,300 yard, 18-hole golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus. Slopes, undulations and water features are placed throughout the playing area.

In addition to the Nicklaus Course, LJA is also providing hydraulic and civil engineering design services for the 18-hole Gary Player Course located in Sterling Ridge.

With the new Nicklaus Course and the Player Course which is scheduled to open in 2002, The Woodlands becomes the only development in the country to offer courses designed by the "Big 3" golf talents of the 1960's: Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player. LJA provided the engineering services for all three courses.

Combining past and present
LJA is also providing engineering services for Carlton Woods and the infrastructure to support one of the nation's premier golf communities, including a 48,000 square foot clubhouse with amenity features that include a fitness center, fine dining and tennis facilities. The community will be surrounded by a Renaissance style wall including a 24-hour guarded entry.

In addition, Carlton Woods roadwork includes the design and construction of a roundabout circle, an emerging trend in traffic management.

In keeping with their tradition, The Woodlands named the new community in honor of Carlton Gibson, an innovative design and construction consultant who was involved with most of the golf course construction at The Woodlands over the last three decades.

Said Alex Sutton, P.E. of The Woodlands Operating Company, "For over two decades LJA has provided the type of engineering that respects the design and the nature of The Woodlands. Our history of designing both quality communities and world class golf courses comes together in Carlton Woods and The Village of Sterling Ridge."
