Sienna Parkway and Overpass Has the Look and Feel of the Community

Construction will be completed this summer on the Sienna Parkway Overpass, a four-lane major thoroughfare and railroad overpass structure located in Sienna Plantation, in Missouri City, Texas.

With provisions to expand to six lanes in the future if warranted, the overpass will offer convenient access to amenities in the community. Spanning the two existing railroads which run through the middle of Sienna Plantation, the overpass will allow trains to pass through Sienna Plantation without having to stop or use their horns at the intersection. The Parkway also includes an eight-foot-wide pedestrian walkway allowing bike and foot traffic to avoid the railroad crossing.

LJA's services included coordination with HL&P, Union Pacific, and BNSF regarding clearance requirements, as well as pavement design, utility relocations, construction management, and soil reinforcement design.

Since the overpass was designed to meet specific architectural standards which allow it to blend in

with the "look and feel" of the community, the structure's embankment was raised from a normal 25 foot height to a 31 foot fill elevation.

According to Senior Project Manager Jerrold L. Graham Jr., "The higher than normal embankment fill provided LJA with an opportunity to work with the Geopier (tm)foundation process, which minimizes the consolidation of the soil as a result of the additional earth pressure."
